At Shi Li Fang, the broth is paramount. Diners can choose to share a pot with two different soup bases or opt for individual pots. Popular choices include the rich and flavorful tomato soup and the notoriously spicy mala soup, which is available in varying levels of heat. As noted in reviews, the mala soup packs a punch—be sure to start with the mildest option if you're not accustomed to spice.
The quality of the ingredients really shines through, with options for protein such as beef, chicken, and fish, all presented in generously thin slices—ideal for hot pot cooking. The hand-pulled noodles, made fresh right at your table, add an exciting touch to the dining experience. Cheap place to eat a meal. They have set meals that start at $9.90 ++ per person. There is a sauce bar where you can make your dipping sauce, I believe this is free until 4pm. The sauce bar has so many different ingredients, sesame seeds, garlic, chilli oil, soy beans etc. For the soup, you can choose to share a pot and have 2 different soups, or have your own individual pot with 1 soup. We shared a pot and had the tomato soup and mala. The mala soup has 3 different levels of spiciness, we opted for the 2nd level which is medium, and it was soooo spicy. It was so spicy that we barely used that side of the pot. You might want to start off with the mildest mala if your tolerance isn't that high. For the sets, you can choose a starch such as noodles and rice. I recommend choosing the hand pulled noodle. The waitress came and actually pulled the noodles in front of us, it was delicious! Overall, this is a cheap spot to eat hot pot. Its great if you are hungry as well as you get a lot of food!

HOT POT (not shabu). Pretty good hot pot place. The decor is extremely tacky but once you look past all that, the food is pretty good. Quality of meats and veggies were great and broths were tasty. Didn't feel heavy at all. Sauce bar was ok, some toppings were out and it took some time to refill. Lots of space for lone diners, as well as families.

Anyone who walked past this place would immediately notice the numerous, colourful toys hanging and lying around. Finally tried this place as I was craving for some affordable shabu shabu. I must say that for the price, I am quite impressed. Since that first visit, I have since visited 3 more times! All 4 times, I have tried the personal set hot pot. For the basic set it costs $11.90++. I am a beef lover, so naturally I opted for the beef set which is $12.90++, including GST and service charge, I paid about $14.90. The set comes with a side of vegetables, staple (choose from either rice, beehoon, vermicelli or hand made noodles etc.). I must admit, however, that the portion of the staple is quite small; I'd usually order another staple. Free flow of drinks are chargeable at a small fee but there is free flow of warm or ice water. Usually I don't pay for extra drinks as I would be quite full from drinking the soup! p.s. Visit more often to collect stamps and you can exchange them for toys!

Delicious flavourful collagen and tomato soup bases. Love the marbled pork and overall incredible value for the amount and quality of food. Great sauces and free flow drinks for 60 cents, beware of long queues at peak hours though and not easy to locate due to structure of the building, but definitely recommended to steamboat lovers as a whole!

Probably the best dupe for Hai Di Lao! really yummy broth and good condiments. the sauces are also really convenient and tasty. Must check it out!

I've had some pretty disappointing experiences at these steamboat restaurants cycling through Orchard Central and many new chains popping up in heartland malls all over: the broth is often too tasteless or too salty, the ingredients taste stale, and so on. Was very impressed at the quality of the food at Shi Li Fang (for only $9.90 for a lunch set, too!!) and will be coming back :) Since I could live on soup alone, the broth is always of utmost importance. 5 stars for the fish soup served here! It's fragrant, thick without being milky or overly sweet, and after ingredients are cooked in it, it soaks up all those yumminess. The staff are attentive in topping up the soup, and I enjoyed drinking up the soup on its own too! The Ma la soup was unfortunately overly spicy without any depth of taste or those fragrant peppery overtones, so I only drank the fish soup one. The lunch sets ($9.90 for various options including chicken, pork, vegetarian- while beef is $14.80) are surprisingly generous and filling. Aside from the 1-2 soup bases, it comes with 8-10 chilled slices of meat, a basket with xiaobaicai and Napa cabbage and a few strings of mushroom and glass noodles and two slices of tofu and one egg, a choice of protein (if you choose la mian, it's pulled and sliced in front of you), a choice of beverage (including lime juice, barley, water chestnut juice). And you can choose from the extensive sauce selection with very fresh chili padis and spring onions. Even describing all that made me tired!! There's ample seating at the benches so you can enjoy a solo meal or just have an entire pot of soup to yourself, with other small tables as well. Probably not the place for a huge group. My friend and I were enjoying our catch up and we never felt rushed. As other OC tenants like Tanuki Raw increase their prices, this is one of those rare unbeatable Orchard deals I'll be returning to!

I walked past this place without giving it a second glance, then I read Ida C's review. I filed it away under to try. I remembered it when I was in the area and decided to give it a try. A good choice, especially if you love hot pot and find it hard to find friends to go with. Shi Li Fang caters to single diners or even to 2-3 diners as you can sit together either at the table or at the long counter. You can get your own hot pot so you do not have to worry about sharing the soup with friends, especially if your taste do not match. During lunch, you can get a single hot pot set for $9.90++ and it comes with choice of soup (max of 2 types), choice of meat (beef, chicken, fish, etc), choice of carbohydrates (rice, noodles, vermicelli) and choice of drink (barley, lime, chestnut and something else). The 4 popular soup choices are ma la, tomato, mushroom and tonic chicken. Beef will be the most ordered item. Besides the meat, it comes with some vegs, imitation crabmeat, fishball, tofu, tang hoon and an egg. It may not look much but it is pretty filling. You can always add on more items if you are still hungry. I had the beef which was so thinly sliced and so tender. There were at least 8 slices of beef which put it above MK Restaurant single diner set. I had the tomato and tonic chicken soup. I much prefer the chicken soup as I found the tomato to be tangy and not really to my liking. The highlight was the 30 condiments to make your own sauce. I love the sesame sauce with its nutty taste. The house chili sauce was equally good too. The sauces could be customized to your heart's content and you do not even have to pay extra unlike at Imperial Treasure Hot Pot and other places. This would be my regular place for hot pot now. The quality is way better than those buffet steamboat in Bugis area. Oh, and apparently they do not use MSG for the soup, the focus is on quality healthy food.

This is our go to neighborhood place for hotpot. The set meal is now even cheaper at 9.90++ and comes with your choice of broth, meat, basket of veggies, drink and noodles. In addition, they have a fun sauce bar with tons of condiments to amuse your inner Batali. After trying a bunch of combinations, my favorites are the chicken, tomato and mushroom broths. I especially like the mushroom set and El Queso Grande always gets beef. The hand pulled noodles are fun because they come and pull them table side. PARTING THOUGHT: the best part is the soup after cooking everything as it gets so much flavor!!!

I felt like having hotpot today, but being alone is not easy to go to hotpot restaurant. Googled out this one which provides small pot for one person. Came over to try and had the chance to take their 9.9 lunch set. I did not expect too much with this price level, but surprisingly it is delicious. Will definitely visit again.
